At Petrkov, September 28 2023
On the afternoon of Thursday, September 28, the Czech-French Cultural Centre in Petrkov (the Czech Republic) and the Museum of Czech Literature hosted the Romarin association to offer a Czech audience MaO Tourmen’s performance of a show called Poétiquement elle / Vie et poésie de Suzanne Renaud (Poetically Her/The Life and Poetry of Suzanne Renaud). Renaud’s poetry resounded in its original language in the home where she lived with her husband, Czech poet and engraver Bohuslav Reynek, from 1936 until her death in 1964 without ever being able to lay eyes on her native France again because of Czechoslovakia’s tragic history during the last century. The tribute marked the one hundredth anniversary of the first time the couple met, in Grenoble, in 1923. Renaud’s bilingual book, Lettres à ses amis tchèques / Dopisy českým přátelům (Letters to Her Czech Friends), published after thirty years of Romarin publications devoted exclusively to the two artists’ work, was also presented at the event. Many loyal friends of the Reynek family home, including younger generations of students, brought together a predominantly French-speaking audience in the living room and garden of this historic site.
