Annick AUZIMOUR:
Henriette Gröll. Grand peintre.
Et femme
.
[Henriette Gröll. A Great Painter. And Woman].
1997

The author was very close to Henriette Gröll (1906-1996) in her final years. She wrote a biography of the painter, who was Parisian yet at the same time from the Dauphiné. Gröll led an exciting life dominated by her strong personality. She was close to most of the 20th century’s great writers and poets, from André Malraux to Saint-Exupéry. A figurative painter whose work went beyond fashion, Gröll was quickly recognized as one of the few women artists, with Suzanne Valadon and Marie Laurencin. Her talent marked contemporary painting. She left behind a considerable body of work (portraits, landscapes and still lifes), now scattered in private collections and museums in France and abroad. At the end of the book, a few letters between the artist and Renaud recall the relationship between these two great women.
